Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo participated in the FIFA World Cup 2026 draw, held in Washington, D.C., United States. During the event, it was determined that the Mexican national team will be the top-seeded team in Group A and will play against the teams of South Africa and South Korea, as well as the winner of the playoff matches between Denmark, Ireland, North Macedonia, and the Czech Republic. Sheinbaum Pardo stated: "Mexico is an extraordinary, beautiful, magical country, and millions will visit our nation." She also added that "we have an extraordinary, hardworking people, and something special: we have enjoyed the ball game since ancestral times." Mexico became the first country in history to host the World Cup for a third time. The country will host thirteen matches in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. The opening match between Mexico and South Africa will take place on June 11, 2026, at the Estadio Ciudad de México. The presidents of the host countries, Donald Trump (USA) and Mark Carney (Canada), were also present at the draw.
