Sacred Flock Faces Post-Gago Challenges

In the most recent matchday of Apertura 2024 of Liga MX, Club Deportivo Guadalajara, also known as the Sacred Flock, faced its first match without Fernando Gago, recently appointed as head coach of Boca Juniors. In this situation, Arturo Ortega takes over on an interim basis for the remainder of the championship. Meanwhile, Club América achieved a resounding victory over Santos.

The match was played with some parity at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, but in the last 20 minutes, the Eagles managed to impose their game and ended up thrashing the lagunero team. This victory positions América in the play-in zone, while Santos remains at the bottom of the table with only eight points.

As the matchdays progress and the end of the regular season approaches, the standings are defined with a view towards the final phase of the tournament. Teams such as Cruz Azul, Toluca, Tigres, Monterrey, Pumas, and Tijuana occupy the top six positions that secure direct passage to the quarter-finals. On the other hand, Atlético San Luis, Chivas, Atlas, and América are positioned from seventh to tenth, which would grant them qualification for the play-in.

With six matchdays left to play, the competition for spots in the final phase intensifies, with teams like Necaxa in eleventh place fighting to stay in the race, while León, Puebla, Juárez, Mazatlán, Pachuca, Querétaro, and Santos are lagging behind with slim chances of qualifying.

Regarding the results of matchday 12, notable matches include Toluca's victory over Querétaro, the draw between Atlas and Mazatlán, and América's win over Santos, among other games that have been determining the standings.

In the overall classification of Apertura 2024, Cruz Azul remains the undisputed leader, closely followed by Toluca in second place. Tigres dropped to third place after their recent defeat, while Chivas climbed positions thanks to their recent victory. Santos, on the other hand, continues at the bottom of the table, showing poor performance in the championship.

With the conclusion of matchday 12, the battle for spots in the final phase remains fierce, with various teams fighting to secure their place in the next stage of the tournament, while others seek to climb the table to keep their hopes of qualification alive.
