On Tuesday, October 22, the award ceremony took place for the financial prizes given to Mexican athletes honored at the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. The gala was attended by Arturo Elías Ayub, director of strategic alliances and content at América Móvil, María José Alcalá, president of the COM, and Liliana Suárez, president of the COPAME. The Mexican representatives were awarded based on the medal they achieved in the competition.
Athletes who won bronze received 100,000 Mexican pesos, while those who obtained silver took home 250,000 pesos. The champions of the Olympic disciplines were awarded 1 million pesos. In total, 15 of the 24 Olympic medalists were present at the event, expressing their gratitude for the recognition and incentives received. It is expected that there will be more supportive actions like this in the future.
The Mexican delegation in Paris 2024 achieved a total of five medals: three silvers and two bronzes in judo, boxing, synchronized diving, individual diving, and team archery. In the Paralympic Games, 17 medals were won in athletics, swimming, taekwondo, and weightlifting, distributed as three golds, six silvers, and eight bronzes.
During the award presentation, Arturo Elías Ayub highlighted the efforts of Mexican athletes and para-athletes, emphasizing their importance as role models for new generations. He also urged sports organizations to unite and work together for the growth of national sports, setting aside any divisions and envies that may exist.
In his words, Ayub emphasized: "Sport is important in our society because it helps many girls and boys to stay away from harmful things, and that is why they need you (the athletes) as a role model to look up to. I hope we have united sports authorities that support each other, communicate, and do not harbor envy. It kills us that they are divided."
The Telmex Foundation carried out this emotional award ceremony to recognize and support the talented Mexican athletes who honored their country at the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
