In the lead-up to the Mexican Grand Prix, the press in England has shed light on a possibility that could affect Franco Colapinto's future in Formula 1. According to Joe Saward, Red Bull is considering a move that would benefit the Argentine driver from Williams Racing. Currently, Red Bull has Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez in its lineup, but rumors suggest they may set the latter aside to make way for Liam Lawson's return.
In his blog, Saward mentioned that while he will wait until the end of the year to confirm the moves for 2025, all signs point to Liam Lawson taking Pérez's place at Red Bull. "They want him to compete alongside Max Verstappen next year," Saward said about this possible decision that would leave a seat vacant at Red Bull, which could be occupied by Colapinto. The Argentine has shone in his early races, and Red Bull has shown interest in him.
Colapinto's excellent performance in Austin has caught the attention of the Austrian team, which seems to have found a solution to its needs. Viewed as a young, talented driver without a confirmed seat for 2025 due to the signings of Albon and Sainz at Williams, Colapinto presents an attractive option for Red Bull.
Saward also mentioned that if Lawson leaves VCARB to join Red Bull, Franco Colapinto is emerging as the main alternative to fill his spot.
