At the Ordinary General Assembly of the Mexican Olympic Committee, María José Alcalá Izguerra was re-elected as president of the organization for the period 2024-2028, which will allow her to continue with her work project. The racquetball player and deputy, Paola Longoria, was responsible for initiating the assembly's work. Upon receiving the vote of confidence, Alcalá acknowledged that they have gone through challenging times but emphasized the importance of working as a team for Mexico.
"These were complicated times, but we never abandoned our athletes and coaches; of course, none of the federations. Now, on the way to 2028, we have a positive outlook and we are clear about where we want to go; we have the elements and the conditions to make one team, the team of Mexico," Alcalá mentioned.
Rommel Pacheco, general director of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport, highlighted the existing unity between both institutions and expressed that since taking office, his goal had been to heal the relationship with the Mexican Olympic Committee.
During the Assembly, an image was observed that contrasts with the situation of disagreement that characterized the relationship between the Committee and the Commission in the past six-year term. María José Alcalá and Rommel Pacheco sealed the reconciliation between both entities and demonstrated unity for the sake of Mexican sports, something that seemed unthinkable a few months ago.
"Thank you all for your presence," Marijose Alcalá expressed during the event, highlighting the importance of the union between the Mexican Olympic Committee and the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport for the development and success in the sporting arena of the country.
