The Apertura 2024 tournament of Liga MX began with the reincorporation of the Minor Rule, which requires clubs to meet a minimum of 1000 minutes of participation from players trained in Mexico during the Qualification Phase of each tournament. To date, only 11 of the 18 participating teams have fully complied with this rule.
Among the teams closest to meeting this requirement is América, which has 92.2 minutes remaining to fulfill the norm, ranking third behind León (42.4 min) and Toluca (84.8 min). Atlas is the team with the least accumulated time, with a total of 215 minutes pending, followed by Querétaro (246.6 min), Cruz Azul (478.8 min), and Tigres (505.8 min).
With only three matchdays remaining to finish the tournament, Liga MX issued a complaint to the sporting president of América, Santiago Baños, due to the non-compliance with the playing minutes quota for players trained in Mexico. A statement was leaked reminding of the importance of adhering to the Minor Rule, urging the club to ensure the participation of its young players within the regulation time.
After the disclosure of this violation through a video shared on social media, the account that initially published the statement removed the post. Currently, attempting to access the content shows an error message. So far, seven teams continue to fail to meet the stipulated time for the Minor Rule.
