Prisca Awiti, the Mexican Olympic medalist, shared her reflections on her performance at the Olympic Games and the pressure in the finals. In a tribute from the Mexican Olympic Committee organized by Herbalife, she received recognition for her achievement in Paris 2024, where she won the silver medal in the 63-kilogram category. Awiti emphasized the importance of working on how to manage pressure in significant competitions, such as those that will occur in Los Angeles 2028.
"Born in London to a Kenyan father and a Mexican mother, Awiti decided to represent Mexico in judo. She began her journey in this sport at the age of 8, prioritizing it over gymnastics and achieving her Olympic success in Paris 2024," noted the athlete. She acknowledged that she is now a reference for judo in Mexico but highlighted the talent of her teammates and teamwork as key for future achievements.
During the ceremony, other medalists like Marco Verde and Osmar Olvera were also recognized for their outstanding performances at the Paris Games, receiving monetary awards for their achievements. Awiti, along with other athletes, is preparing for the new Olympic cycle with an eye on Los Angeles 2028, where they hope to achieve better results.
The president of the Mexican Olympic Committee, María José Alcalá, highlighted the importance of awarding both athletes and their coaches, emphasizing the commitment and dedication that elite sports performance entails. In this regard, Awiti expressed her determination to work on key aspects to improve her performance and successfully face the challenges that lie ahead on her path to the next Olympic Games.
