
Several Mexican athletes who shone at the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games have been awarded the National Sports Award 2024. The selection of the winners took place this Thursday at the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Conade) to recognize the best in sports in Mexico.
In the athlete category, the awardees were Prisca Awitti, who made history by winning Mexico's first Olympic medal in judo, and Oscar Olvera, recognized for his achievements in synchronized 3-meter springboard diving. Juan Celaya was also awarded for his performance in the same discipline, as well as Marco Verde, who excelled in the 71-kilogram category in boxing. Gloria Zarza and Juan Pablo Cervantes were recognized for their outstanding performances at the Paralympic Games.
In the professional category, footballer Charlyn Corral was selected, while in the coaching branch, Radamés Hernández, responsible for training Marco Verde, and other professionals in Para-athletics stood out. In the referees category, Katia Itzel García was awarded, recognized for her performance in the Liga MX Femenil.
The National Sports Award consists of a 0.900 gold medal and a monetary compensation of 796 thousand pesos. The official delivery to the awarded athletes is scheduled for November 20, by President Claudia Sheinbaum, at an event organized by the Secretariat of Public Education.
