
During the Pan American Junior Games of canoeing in Uruguay, Mexico stood out by obtaining second place in the overall medal count with 172 medals, finishing behind Brazil. Canoeing was a prominent discipline in the event, and the place achieved will allow Mexico to maintain its competitive level for the upcoming cycle in 2025.
The Querétaro athlete, Santiago Zúñiga, along with other Mexican athletes, will face the selection process at the beginning of the following year to determine who will be part of the Mexican team in future competitions. Zúñiga was part of the national team that competed in the Under-21 category in this edition of the Pan American Junior Games in Cali, Colombia, inaugurated in 2021 to promote the development of young athletes in America.
The participation of the Mexican team in the canoeing competition achieved a fourth position with a time of 1:28.47 minutes, thus securing their spot in the continental tournament. Santiago Zúñiga, in addition to standing out in team events, obtained a fourth place in the individual events, demonstrating his skill and performance in this discipline.
In the K4 500 meters event, Zúñiga competed alongside Fernando Rodríguez, Mauricio Ureña, and Alexander Popa, consolidating a solid performance in the Pan American Junior Games of canoeing.
