In Guanajuato, there have been several attacks with car bombs recently, causing injuries to personnel in "critical" condition. One of the incidents occurred near a National Guard camp, generating fear due to its proximity to a military base and residential areas in Celaya. In the most recent attack in Acámbaro, three police officers were injured, and this type of attack has been linked to the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel in the region.
Last June, a car bomb in Celaya severely affected ten members of the National Guard. Criminal groups use car bombs as a sophisticated tactic to confront authorities and instill terror in the population. In this case, the explosion occurred after a riddled vehicle was found on the Celaya-Salvatierra highway, which could have been retaliation for the arrest of hitmen or for the detention of "El Marro", leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel.
In another incident, also in June of last year, a vehicle with explosives was found near the Pemex Antonio M. Amor refinery in Salamanca, Guanajuato. Although it was abandoned right at the entrance, authorities were unable to identify those responsible in subsequent investigations.
