Acapulco's Economic Recovery Progressing Amidst Challenges

Regardless of political parties, six-year terms come and go, and the taxpayer base grows little. Informal commerce is one of the most important sources of employment for millions of Mexicans. However, it is the captive taxpayers, as well as legal entities, who contribute a significant portion of the resources for the federal government.

In recent years, there have been few alternatives to increase the taxpayer base. Therefore, when the RESICO (Simplified Trust Regime) was sought to attract more taxpayers to the Federal Register of Taxpayers, with the intention of having them pay the Tax Administration Service (SAT), it was considered a good alternative. However, some "black holes" in this regime will be discussed by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) to protect taxpayers against possible retroactive taxes.

The case of a taxpayer informed by the SAT about the obligation to comply with their tax obligations from the beginning of the fiscal year in case of noncompliance with the presentation of the annual declaration has generated controversy. The Court is analyzing the constitutionality of the miscellaneous tax resolutions and could declare the miscellaneous rule in question unconstitutional.

Regarding successful alliances, the collaboration between HSBC Mexico, Scotiabank, BanBajío, Inbursa, Banregio, and Mifel in the Multired project stands out. Through this, their ATMs have generated significant savings for customers and more than 60.7 million transactions have been made in two years.

In Acapulco Diamante, recovery efforts are progressing slowly. Problems such as water supply in some neighborhoods still persist, and the recovery of condominiums in the Diamante area remains a challenge. Despite obstacles such as the dispute between the governor of Guerrero and Fibra Orión over the Diamante Viaduct road, there are investors who trust in the improvement of the region.

The reopening of the Diamante Viaduct, expropriated by the state nearly two years ago, remains a pending issue in Guerrero. The lack of response from the state government to Fibra Orión's offer to carry out comprehensive rehabilitation is an obstacle in the process. Despite the challenges, it is expected that the recovery of Acapulco Diamante will continue, albeit at a slower pace than two years ago.
