Hurricane Otis caused severe damage in Acapulco, affecting hotels, restaurants, and businesses. Many businesses are still closed or under repair, showing the devastation they suffered.


Recovery of Acapulco after Hurricane Otis

La Marina Acapulco still shows fallen boats and a destroyed office after Hurricane Otis. Stores and hotels in the Traditional area have also been affected.

The Suzuki store, located in the area, serves its customers despite the damage to its facilities. The Acamares hotel is undergoing repair work to improve its appearance. In Las Joyas, a condominium of three towers, severe damage can be observed.

The restaurants McCarthy’s Irish Pub and Sushi Itto keep their doors closed with no visible improvement work underway. The Señor Frogs store near the Costa Azul neighborhood shows damage to its facade and was looted. The Soriana Costa Azul supermarket remains closed with a sign reading "property for rent."

In the same area, the hotels El Presidente and Holiday Inn are closed, one for remodeling and the other boarded up at the main entrance. The Porto Mare Acapulco condominium is also closed with damaged apartments. The Fiesta Americana hotel in the Condesa area is being remodeled and is expected to reopen by the end of the year.

The famous Bungee has closed its doors permanently, as has the Tommy Hilfiger store which was looted. Hotels like Hotsson Acapulco are continuing renovations to reopen in the coming weeks, while the American University of Acapulco remains in ruins and closed.

The Las Hamacas hotel and nearby businesses like the Sharon’s bakery and the Bajab company are closed and with no repairs. Walmart Express is undergoing remodeling and is closed to the public, just like the Brooklyn Sports House restaurant which has posted a rental sign.

The El Cano hotel decided to close its doors for remodeling and to convert them into apartments. A year after Hurricane Otis, businesses on Miguel Alemán coastal avenue show the scars of devastation, some under reconstruction and others abandoned.

On the same avenue, from the Naval Base to Caleta Beach, the destruction of restaurants, condominiums, and stores can be observed. The Dreams hotel near the Naval Base is under repair, especially on the building's facade.
