The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, announced the end of the emergency phase due to Hurricane John in more than 60 municipalities of Guerrero and Oaxaca, including Acapulco. Sheinbaum highlighted the beginning of a new phase focused on recovery and the revitalization of tourism in the area.

In a conference in the twelfth naval region, she referred to the importance of Acapulco as a key tourist destination in the country, as well as to other 50 municipalities in Guerrero and 15 localities in Oaxaca that will benefit from tourism promotion actions in the Mexican Pacific region.

"There are 51 municipalities that were affected in some way, with Acapulco being the most impacted. Today we can affirm that the emergency has concluded and we are moving to the next stage," Sheinbaum assured. The governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, and the governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara Cruz, accompanied her in the announcement.

The Mexican leader detailed that more than 7.7 billion pesos (385 million dollars) have been invested in addressing the emergency and beginning the recovery of the affected infrastructure. Economic support will continue to mitigate the effects of the hurricane, with potential additional aid aimed at housing.

Sheinbaum also emphasized that cleaning works, rehabilitation of roads and bridges, as well as recovery efforts with the private sector, will continue in the region. The Secretary of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel Reyes, confirmed the disbursement of economic support amounting to 6.4 billion pesos (about 320 million dollars) to the residents of Guerrero and Oaxaca due to Hurricane John.

The resources will be delivered to those affected, with specific amounts for different types of damage. Relocation measures will be established for people who lived in high-risk areas and cannot rebuild their homes in the same location.

Regarding tourism, federal authorities announced a series of events to relaunch Acapulco as a tourist destination until December. These activities include sports events, concerts, and conferences aimed at reactivating and recovering hotel occupancy prior to Hurricane John.
