Five tourists from the State of Mexico died this Good Friday on Viaducto Diamante in Acapulco after an SUV carrying 13 people and a pet, including a minor, rolled over. The accident in the Diamante area of Acapulco, one of the country's main tourist centers, occurred at 10:15 a.m. when a white SUV's tire blew out while it was traveling on the Sun Highway towards the Las Naciones boulevard, causing the driver to lose control. Witnesses stated that the driver was speeding, which led to him losing control of the SUV and rolling it over onto the median of the Metlapil highway. At the scene, the bodies of four people were found dead: two men, a woman, and a girl approximately 10 years old, along with a dog that was traveling with them. Additionally, eight more people were injured. The scene showed all their belongings scattered across the highway: suitcases, backpacks with clothes, pillows, towels, sheets, and some blankets, which police used to cover the bodies that were found dead. Three ambulances from the Guerrero State Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection, one from the Red Cross, and one from the Fire Department arrived at the scene, transporting the nine injured individuals to the Quemado hospital. One of the injured men died in the hospital while receiving medical attention due to the severity of his injuries. Witnesses mentioned that some of the tourists were traveling in the truck bed, which also had a camper, but due to the impact, it was destroyed and crushed some of the bodies, which had fractures, bruises, and contusions.
