After an armed attack that resulted in the death of two delivery workers from the transnational companies Coca-Cola FEMSA and Grupo Modelo, as well as a serious injury from Sigma Alimentos, authorities in Guerrero have intensified security measures in the port of Acapulco. According to the Organic Law of the Free Municipality of Guerrero, crime prevention efforts should be the responsibility of the local government.
In response to the events that occurred on Thursday, January 23, state and federal forces have been deployed to the distribution plants that suspended their operations. The National Guard, the Mexican Army, the State Attorney General's Office, and the State Public Security Secretariat will collaborate to protect the population and ensure a safe environment for workers in the business sector.
In a joint effort, the State Police and the National Guard will work with businessmen, merchants, and local productive sectors to train them in the application of security protocols, establishing effective communication channels and providing support during the distribution of products. These measures aim to restore public tranquility and ensure the effective functioning of commercial activities, recently affected by an increase in crime in the region.
The Undersecretary of the Interior of Guerrero, Francisco RodrÃguez Cisneros, pointed out that the recent attacks on delivery units in Acapulco were a retaliation by criminal groups against the actions of authorities that significantly reduced crime incidence in the area and captured individuals linked to criminal activities. The strategy to confront this violence was agreed upon at the Coordination Table for Peacebuilding in Guerrero, where it was decided to implement special security operations led by federal and state institutions.
