Violent Attack on Emergency Medical Team in Acapulco

Four people were attacked by an armed group in Acapulco in the early morning of Sunday, February 16, in the municipality of Ayutla de los Libres, in the Costa Chica region of Guerrero. The victims were urgently transported to the port for specialized medical attention. However, on the way, when the ambulance was traveling on the federal highway Acapulco-Pinotepa Nacional, it was violently intercepted by a group of armed men.

The Guerrero Attorney General's Office reported through an official statement that an investigation was opened for the crime of qualified homicide against the four murdered individuals, as well as for the injuries caused to a fifth victim, who was also wounded by gunfire. Police Investigators arrived at the scene, accompanied by forensic service agents assigned to the Attorney General's Office, who processed the crime scene, collected necessary evidence and initiated preliminary investigations.

This violent incident occurred one day after a similar attack, when a man identified as a bricklayer was murdered inside a hospital in Acapulco. According to reports, this individual had been shot at the municipal cemetery in the town of Las Cruces and, while receiving medical attention, was finished off inside the hospital.

So far, no arrests have been reported in connection with these events. The victims were transferred to the facilities of the Forensic Medical Service to carry out legal proceedings. The attackers forced the medical unit operators to get out and, without saying a word, shot the four wounded individuals to death. According to preliminary police reports, the attack occurred near the town of Bellavista Papagayo, just a few meters past the bridge of the same name, within territory that marks the rural area of the Acapulco port.
