
During the early hours of Friday, an explosion occurred in front of the facilities of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat of Acapulco, Guerrero, in the Progreso neighborhood. The incident left one man and one woman dead, and caused material damage to a convenience store.
According to preliminary reports, a couple on a motorcycle attempted to launch a grenade at the facilities of the Secretariat when it detonated in their hands on Sonora Avenue. In response, authorities cordoned off the area to carry out the corresponding investigations.
After several hours of work, the bodies of the victims were removed and transferred as unidentified to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for autopsy. The Guerrero State Attorney General's Office (FGE Guerrero) reported that relevant investigations are already underway.
The Municipal Public Security Secretariat of Acapulco has strengthened inter-institutional coordination with state and federal authorities to clarify the case and collaborate with law enforcement in locating and apprehending the alleged perpetrators.
For its part, the Secretariat has not made direct statements regarding the attack on its facilities and suspended its activities on Friday. They have committed to continue working to strengthen the trust of Acapulco residents and improve prevention and response mechanisms.
