In the center of Acapulco, Guerrero, during Holy Week, images and videos were spread of an Urvan used for public transport that was set on fire. Initial reports suggest that the assailants used a firearm to force passengers out of the vehicle. The violent act occurred at a time of high tourist influx due to the Holy Week holidays.
The burned Urvan was found in the middle of the street, surrounded by other vehicles and engulfed in flames, generating a dense column of smoke. According to reports published on the account of Deputy Ramiro Solorio Almazán, the citizens aboard the vehicle were threatened with a firearm to make them get off. One witness mentioned: 'They just set fire to an Urvan from San Isidro Centro; we were all made to get off at gunpoint, and they took it to set it on fire there by El Vaquero Norteño.'
This incident adds to other violent events that have occurred in Acapulco during the Holy Week holidays. Last Wednesday, around 500 taxi drivers blocked the Mexico-Acapulco highway with empty coffins in protest against the wave of violence in the tourist area. Additionally, recently, in a bar called 'Chidas,' a group of armed assailants opened fire, resulting in the tragic death of seven people.
On social media, there has been growing discontent and concern over the rise in homicides in the area during Holy Week. Firefighters attempted to extinguish the fire inside the Urvan, which occurred in the area behind the well-known zone of El Vaquero.
