The new Mexican version of the successful comedy series "The Office" is in production, led by Gaz Alazraki, Francisco Íñigo, and director Marcos Bucay. The original American series, which follows the daily lives of employees at Dunder Mifflin in Scranton, has been a reference in the world of television comedy and has had multiple adaptations in different countries, but Mexico did not have its version.
The series titled "La Oficina" will take a twist and set the story in a soap factory of the Olimpo brand in the city of Aguascalientes. Despite the high expectations for this new version, there are concerns that it may end up being a generic comedy similar to other productions. The audience is eager to see how this adaptation unfolds compared to the original starring Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, and Jenna Fischer.
The news of the launch of "The Office Mexico" comes at a time when the original series will have 10 additional episodes in a spin-off format. Additionally, a sequel is being prepared that will maintain the mockumentary style and focus on the life of a group of reporters in a fading media outlet.
Although the premiere date has not yet been officially announced, it is known that the series will be available on Amazon Prime. Filming of the Mexican version began on August 30, and viewers are expected to soon enjoy the chaotic yet fun work life of the new cast in Aguascalientes.
