After at least three narcomantas attributed to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel appeared in Aguascalientes, warning singer Óscar Maydon not to perform in the city, his concert scheduled for the second weekend of February at the Palenque de la Feria was officially canceled. Óscar Maydon's concert, known for performing corridos tumbados, was set for February 8, and although tickets were nearly sold out, the company in charge of the event, Showticket, announced in a statement that, due to reasons beyond their control, the show would not take place.
The narcomantas contained warning messages for the young 25-year-old singer as well as for Jaime Cruz, the mayor of Villa Hidalgo, Jalisco, representing the Ciudadano Movement, a municipality close to Aguascalientes. The messages were found in three different locations in the capital, which, like the state, is governed by the National Action Party.
Outgoing Aguascalientes prosecutor, Jesús Figueroa Ortega, informed in a press interview that investigations had begun into the narcomantas directed at singer Óscar Maydon, attributed to the CJNG, and that three possible suspects were already in custody. Figueroa Ortega will hand over his position at the end of this month.
These events followed a violent night recorded between January 29 and 30 in Aguascalientes, which resulted in five murders and an attempted homicide, all committed with firearms. Among the victims was a police officer in a confrontation in the municipality of Asientos, and a worker from the Agricultural Commercial Center who received a gunshot wound to the head. Subsequently, in the same area, vendors discovered another narcomanta with the same design and signature as those found earlier.
