Collaboration for Security in Western Mexico

The governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus, participated in the working table of the Second Meeting with governors of the Western Zone of Mexico organized by the Secretariat of National Defense with the aim of reinforcing coordination on security issues in the region. As part of the activities of this Meeting, held this month at the facilities of the Mechanized Regiment of the XIV Military Zone in Aguascalientes, the plan to outline and advance security strategies was addressed.

The meeting was led by the General of Division Diplomate of General Staff Miguel Ángel Hernández Martínez, Commander of the V Military Region, and María Teresa Jiménez Esquivel, governor of Aguascalientes, who welcomed the governors and security authorities present.

The Jalisco governor shared that he will continue to work in coordination with federal and state forces in various operations and security strategies, especially on highways and bus terminals. One of these strategies involves the creation of the State Police of Roads, as well as the implementation of technologies with road arches and cameras.

Indira Vizcaíno Silva, governor of Colima; Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, governor of Nayarit; and David Monreal Ávila, governor of Zacatecas, as well as security authorities from the five entities, the National Guard (GN), and the Mexican Army also participated in the meeting.

In these meetings, each state governor has the opportunity to share the challenges and achievements in the matter in their respective entities, as well as to propose joint strategies for the benefit of the Western region. It is worth remembering that last January, the First Meeting of Governors was held in the municipality of Villanueva, Zacatecas.

On that occasion, the governor of Jalisco presented the following security projects that he will be managing during his administration: Operations focused on detecting irregular motorcycles, strengthening surveillance on highways and bus terminals, and the creation of the Secretariat of Intelligence and Search for Persons.

This meeting reaffirms the commitment of the governors of Western Mexico to work towards consolidating a safer region.
