Lightning Strikes in Apodaca Amid Severe Storm

During the afternoon-evening of Tuesday, a storm surprised the inhabitants of the municipality of Apodaca and drivers traveling on Avenida Miguel Alemán by witnessing a lightning strike falling on the road. The moment was captured in a video where a man’s shocked scream can be heard as he takes shelter under a bridge.

Heavy rains, wind, and hail were reported in more than 10 municipalities of the region that day. However, the lightning strike went viral for being a phenomenon rarely captured on video due to its speed. The incident took place near a shopping center on the avenue.

In Apodaca, a hailstorm was also reported, but so far, no damage has been reported from the large chunks of ice falling. Civil Protection mentioned that the municipalities of Montemorelos, General Terán, Guadalupe, Cadereyta, Pesquería, and Doctor González, besides Apodaca, experienced heavy precipitation.

Social media users shared images and videos of the rain, hail, and flooding in different areas of the metropolitan region. Monterrey was one of the least affected cities, with light drizzle compared to the intensity of the rain in Apodaca and Guadalupe. In Juárez, the road to San Mateo at its intersection with Eloy Cavazos was one of the most affected routes by the storm.
