
In the early morning of Sunday, January 26th, an armed attack shook the Ópera DC nightclub in downtown Cárdenas, Tabasco. In the incident, two people lost their lives and another was injured. The event took place around three in the morning, when a group of armed individuals entered the establishment and opened fire on those present.
The fatal victims, whose identities have not yet been revealed, were struck by the bullets, while a third individual sustained gunshot wounds to the neck and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Neighbors in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots coming from the nightclub, located on Allende Street, between Vicente Guerrero and Comonfort, not far from Central Park.
After receiving the emergency alert, local police forces and the National Guard arrived at the scene to secure the area and carry out the necessary investigations. So far, the perpetrators of the attack have not been identified, and the State Attorney General's Office has initiated an investigation to clarify what happened.
The National Survey on Public Security (ENSU) from INEGI revealed a concerning increase in the perception of public insecurity in Mexico during the last quarter of 2024, reaching 61.7% of people who consider their locality unsafe. It is noted that in cities like Villahermosa, Tabasco, there has been an increase in the incidence of violence in recent months.
The coordinator of the parliamentary group of Movimiento Ciudadano, Patricia Lanestosa Vidal, commented that the high perception of public insecurity in Villahermosa is having a negative impact on investment and tourism in Tabasco.
