The alleged responsible party, Germán Reyes, in charge of public safety in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, has been detained and presented to the judge in relation to the murder of Alejandro Arcos Catalán, the mayor of Chilpancingo who was killed after being in office for only a week. The Attorney General's Office of the State (FGE Guerrero) carried out the arrest warrant with the collaboration of the Army and the National Guard, charging Reyes with qualified homicide, committed on October 6 of this year.
The municipal government of Chilpancingo has expressed its respect for the investigation process that seeks to clarify the murder of Arcos Catalán, even after the detention of the municipal Secretary of Public Safety. The local administration, led by Gustavo Alarcón Herrera, is committed to restoring security and tranquility to the population in collaboration with security authorities. They emphasize respect for the rule of law, due process, and transparency in investigations, with the goal of maintaining the trust of the citizenry and acting responsibly.
In response to this tragic event, Alejandro Moreno, national president of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), to which Arcos Catalán belonged, condemned the murder of the mayor and the secretary of Chilpancingo. Likewise, the governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado, joins the condemnations, assuring that there will be no impunity in this case and that those responsible will be brought to justice.
Alejandro Moreno expressed: "Our mayor of Chilpancingo, Alejandro Arcos, has been murdered, just three days after the secretary of this same city council, Francisco Tapia. They had been in office for less than a week. Young and honest officials seeking progress for their community." For her part, Governor Evelyn Salgado stated: "I strongly condemn the murder of the municipal president of Chilpancingo, Alejandro Arcos Catalán, a fact that the Attorney General's Office has confirmed, initiating the pertinent investigations for clarification and to bring those responsible to justice, without allowing for impunity. His loss saddens the entire Guerrero society and fills us with indignation."
