Controversial Arrest Linked to Chilpancingo Mayor's Murder

After the detention of Germán Reyes, accused of being involved in the murder of the elected mayor of Chilpancingo, Alejandro Arcos, versions arise linking him to the Los Ardillos cartel, as well as to political decisions that led to his arrest. During a recess of the hearing held on Tuesday, November 13, Germán Reyes declared to the media that he was a scapegoat and that he had nothing to do with the kidnapping and murder of Alejandro Arcos.

"This is a political matter," Reyes commented to the media, adding that he had no animosity towards Arcos, who had appointed him as Secretary of Security. Reyes stated that at the time of his detention, he did not know the reasons or the crime he was accused of. On November 18, it will be determined whether Germán Reyes will be linked to the process, after the Guerrero Prosecutor's Office pointed him out as one of those responsible for the murder and possibly linked to Los Ardillos.

The version of the Prosecutor's Office suggests that Germán Reyes, allegedly a member of Los Ardillos, kidnapped Alejandro Arcos on a ranch in Quechultenango because he refused to give more government positions to people related to the organization. This information would originate from Domitilo Cándido Pila, who claimed to have heard during his kidnapping that Germán Reyes was responsible for the murder. Cándido, after being released, provided details that, according to the Public Ministry, resulted in his murder on November 6 in Chilpancingo.

These accusations were dismissed by Germán Reyes, who asserted that when Alejandro Arcos's remains were found, he was dining at a restaurant south of the city. The case continues to generate controversy regarding Reyes's involvement in the heinous crime.
