The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, informed two days after the disappearance that Mayor Alejandro Arcos Catalán was found dead. Germán Reyes Reyes, former Secretary of Security of Chilpancingo, Guerrero, was arrested, accused of the homicide of the municipal president, who had only been in office for a week and was found with signs of violence after his disappearance was reported.
The arrest of the former military man occurred on November 12 and after an arraignment hearing that lasted until the early morning, six days were granted to the State Attorney General's Office to present the evidence supporting the link to the process. Although Reyes requested that he not be placed in preventive detention, the judge determined that he should remain in preventive detention.
Alejandro Arcos Catalán was murdered on October 6 when he was heading alone to a meeting in the community of Petaquillas. The victim was traveling without escorts or a driver, and hours before, he had inspected areas affected by a hurricane. There was no request from the mayor for federal protection, according to Harfuch.
