The detention of Germán Reyes provides new information about the murder of Alejandro Arcos, recently appointed mayor of Chilpancingo, Guerrero, who was kidnapped and decapitated. The crime has been condemned by the local population, which even asked Norma Otilia Hernández, his predecessor in office, not to attend the funeral of the elected official from the PRI-PAN-PRD alliance.
More than a month after the discovery of Arcos' remains, the Guerrero Prosecutor's Office reported on the detention of Germán Reyes, appointed to lead the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Chilpancingo by Arcos himself. Amid the controversy, Reyes declared himself innocent during the hearing, stating that his detention was a political act and denying any involvement in the murder.
According to what was presented at the hearing, it was revealed that Arcos was murdered for refusing to grant positions in his government to individuals linked to Los Ardillos, a local criminal group. Despite the accusations against him, Reyes maintains that he is a scapegoat in the case and has no connection to this criminal organization.
The Public Ministry has until November 18 to decide whether Germán Reyes will be linked to the process for his alleged involvement in the violent events. The investigation is based on testimonies, such as that of a kidnapped merchant, Domitilo Cándido Pila, who is said to have overheard conversations linking Reyes to Los Ardillos before being murdered shortly after his release.
