A young 21-year-old student from the Universidad Popular Autónoma de Veracruz (UPAV), identified as Yair, managed to survive an attempted homicide by pretending to be dead to avoid being killed by the assailants. According to local media reports, Yair was having dinner at a restaurant with others when two armed individuals broke in. Despite having received more than five shots, the young man remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Without warning, the attackers fired directly at Yair, who, originally from Celaya, Guanajuato, in a desperate act, faked his death. This ruse baffled the criminals, who left the scene unaware that Yair was still alive. Once the attackers departed, the wounded student got up and made his way to a hospital on his own for urgent medical attention, leaving his motorcycle parked outside the restaurant.
Despite the severity of the attack, videos on social media show the restaurant cordoned off and a heavy police presence at the scene after the incident, although there are no images of the exact moment of the shooting. Local authorities have confirmed that the attack was specifically directed at Yair, but the motivations behind it remain unknown. Veracruz authorities are investigating the incident in order to identify the responsible parties as soon as possible.
The violent armed attack took place on the night of Sunday, February 2, at the restaurant "El Mariskito" in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz.
