Four people lost their lives during an armed attack that took place in a mechanical workshop in Veracruz last Friday, being the second incident of this type in less than a week in the region, with a total of seven people killed. According to information provided by the State Attorney General's Office, armed individuals broke into a workshop located in the Playa Sur neighborhood of the port of Coatzacoalcos.
In the workshop, four people were killed, and the perpetrators managed to escape, despite the deployment of a strong security operation that included elements of the Mexican Army, National Guard, and State Police. The Attorney General's Office of Veracruz has commissioned forensic experts and police agents to carry out the relevant investigations with the aim of clarifying the reason for the attack and identifying those responsible.
This tragic event constitutes the second attack on a mechanical workshop that has occurred in less than a week in Veracruz, a region that has historically been affected by high levels of violence associated with drug trafficking organizations. Last Wednesday, three people were killed and another was seriously injured when armed individuals entered a workshop in the municipality of Perote, in the central mountainous area, managing to flee the scene.
Veracruz has experienced violence related to drug cartels, which have expanded their activities to practices such as kidnapping, human trafficking, and extortion of various sectors of civil society. According to a report by the civil organization Causa en ComĂșn for the year 2024, a total of 72 episodes of extreme violence with 107 victims were recorded in the state of Veracruz.
