The mayor of Cuauhtémoc, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, has reported receiving death threats through private messages on her social media. The official stated that these intimidations aim to derail her work in favor of security, justice, and a life free of violence for all.
On May 11, Rojo de la Vega was the victim of an assassination attempt after finishing a campaign event in the Peralvillo neighborhood. Three people were arrested in connection with the incident and charged with attempted femicide.
The mayor informed that she recently received threatening and offensive messages that included insults and a warning that she would be killed. Rojo de la Vega filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City and requested the Secretary of Citizen Security to investigate the case.
In a press conference, the local leader expressed her determination to move forward despite the intimidation. She emphasized the importance of working for security and justice and not allowing these threats to affect her work for the benefit of the community.
"Courage is not the absence of fear," said Rojo de la Vega, highlighting the challenges women face in a country where being threatened is a constant reality. The official reaffirmed her commitment to the peace and security of her neighbors, emphasizing that she would continue to work to fulfill her duty amid adversity.
