Mayor Announce Plan to Rescue Animal Shelter

The Mayor of Cuauhtémoc, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, has announced an urgent plan to rescue the Dog and Cat Hotel, a shelter whose current conditions are inadequate for companion animals. She committed to providing food and renovating the building to make it a dignified place for the resident cats and dogs.

The mayor requested the support of the community, private initiative, and civil organizations to spread the word about the shelter's situation, find adoptive families, seek private investment, and collaborate with organizations. Additionally, she is planning to create a food bank next year to promote responsible pet ownership and prevent abandonment.

During her visit to the site, Alessandra Rojo de la Vega confirmed the precarious conditions in which the animals were: small, poor-condition cages, areas without shade, and sharp fences that pose a danger to the dogs and cats. The shelter offers free services such as vaccinations, sterilizations, deworming, and basic canine grooming care.

Currently, 15 dogs and 11 cats live in the shelter, most of whom were rescued from abandonment situations or homes where their owner passed away. These animals are waiting to be adopted by families that can provide them with a new home and a second chance. The mayor committed to improving the conditions of the shelter and finding solutions to ensure the well-being of the animals residing there.
