The Government of Mexico has reaffirmed its commitment to creating an equitable health system centered on primary care, placing health as one of the priority axes of the national agenda.
In the framework of the XX Congress of Public Health Research and the VIII Latin American and Caribbean Congress on Global Health, Ramiro López Elizalde, Undersecretary for Health Policies and Population Well-Being, indicated that the goal is to build a universal, free, quality, and equitable health system, with a focus on strengthening primary care.
Under the leadership of President Claudia Sheinbaum and Secretary of Health David Kershenobich, policies focused on ensuring effective access to medical services have been implemented, emphasizing disease prevention and early care, especially in the most vulnerable communities.
López Elizalde highlighted the importance of consolidating an equitable and fair health system, emphasizing that access to quality services contributes to the well-being of the population. He also stressed the role of the Ministry of Health as the governing body, the integration of the system, the development of medical care through IMSS-Bienestar, and the promotion of transparency and efficiency in the sector.
Patricia Clark Peralta, Secretary of the General Health Council, emphasized the improvement of health care through the development of the National Medical Care Protocols for the First Level of Care (PRONAM), which cover priority areas such as diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, obesity, among others.
Both officials agreed that prevention must have a priority focus without neglecting curative care, highlighting the importance of initiatives such as The Sample Travels, See for Mexico, and The First Thousand Days of Life.
