The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, announced during the morning conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum that the clandestine monitoring center found in Culiacán, Sinaloa, last week belonged to the 'Los Chapitos' faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. The discovery took place on January 21 amid a territorial dispute with the 'Los Mayitos' faction.
During the inspection of the site carried out by the Secretary of National Defense and the Attorney General's Office, it was discovered that surveillance was being conducted through security cameras at the residence. This tactic is not unusual, as Harfuch stated, it is not the first time that such centers have been dismantled by the authorities.
Harfuch mentioned that "if it is a drug sales point or a safe house, they have simple but effective cameras that observe the surroundings and the authorities." The seizure occurred after security forces received a report about a confrontation between criminal groups south of Culiacán.
During security operations, two individuals were arrested while in possession of firearms, who were found in the building where the clandestine video surveillance center was discovered. A network of security cameras located in various parts of the city was found at the site.
Although no injuries or fatalities were reported in the confrontations, authorities extended investigations to different neighborhoods such as La Campiña, El Barrio, Miguel Hidalgo, and Villa Real. Both state and federal forces secured the area to carry out the necessary procedures that led to the information provided in the most recent update.
