Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of the deputies from Morena, has insisted that the government of Claudia Sheinbaum should not provide legal support to the drug trafficker Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, who claims to have been kidnapped in Mexico and illegally taken to the United States. Monreal emphasized the importance of respecting legality, the rule of law, and due process, as well as international cooperation, all while maintaining respect for the sovereignty of Mexico.
In a letter delivered to the consulate in New York, 'El Mayo' Zambada demands his repatriation and warns of possible consequences in the relationship between Mexico and the United States if this does not happen. Monreal has mentioned that any action must respect the law and not yield to blackmail, emphasizing that the defense of Mexican citizens is fundamental in the face of illegal acts from other countries, regardless of the crimes they have committed.
Monreal believes that the defense of 'El Mayo' Zambada must present evidence supporting his claim of having been kidnapped and illegally taken to the United States by Joaquín Guzmán López, son of 'El Chapo' Guzmán. The politician recalled previous cases where individuals were illegally kidnapped and tried in the United States, resulting in their repatriation after proving the illegality of the process.
In this regard, Monreal has highlighted that the Mexican state cannot allow threats of the kind 'if you don't do this, that will happen,' emphasizing the importance of maintaining legality and mutual respect in international relations.
