In Culiacán, Sinaloa, a case has arisen that has outraged the population and raised questions about the conduct of local authorities. A video shows how at least 8 members of the National Guard and Sedena shot at Alexis's truck, crashed it, and made it crash into a pole. Another officer noticed they were being recorded, alerted his colleagues, and proceeded to collect the shell casings and remove the injured young man from the vehicle to take him into custody.
The official report presented by the authorities described Alexis's detention as a success, but the young man's defense used the video as evidence in his favor. Despite the shots and the crash, Alexis was still alive, and one of the soldiers ordered his execution as he approached the truck. However, an expert assessment showed that the National Guard's version was false, thus demonstrating an extreme abuse of power against the young man.
After reviewing the evidence, a federal judge decided to release Alexis without filing charges against him, exposing that the security forces acted illegally and came close to ending the life of an innocent person. The population of Sinaloa is increasingly concerned about the rising violence in the region and the crimes that have accumulated in recent months, increasing distrust towards the authorities.
The case in Culiacán adds to other situations of police abuse that have occurred in the region, further fueling the population's distrust. Recently, Alexis was arrested under the accusation of transporting two armed men who allegedly fired at federal forces in the city. However, a security camera video showed a different version than that provided by the authorities, indicating that the military acted violently and abusively towards the young man.
