Elements of the National Army and the National Guard announced the capture of Omar Félix Loaiza, alias 'El Pelón', in an operation carried out to arrest a leader of Los Chapitos who was leading the war against Los Mayitos in Culiacán, Sinaloa. Omar Félix Loaiza, also known as 'El 08', was an important operator of a faction of Los Chapitos that maintained a fierce struggle against the hitmen of 'Mayo' Flaco, son of drug trafficker Ismael Zambada.

Omar Félix Loaiza managed to form an alliance with Los Chapitos in the world of drug trafficking, and together they prohibited the sale of fentanyl and all its derivatives in Sonora, where he was conducting his illicit activities. The dispute in Culiacán intensified following the capture of Ismael Zambada, supposedly turned in by Los Chapitos to U.S. authorities, which led to a war zone in Sinaloa.

Identified as one of the main actors in this conflict, 'El 08' led the faction known as 'Los Pelones' and his area of operation was centered in Sonoyta, on the border with the United States. From there, they engaged in drug trafficking, promoted violence, and participated in arms trafficking. The capture of Omar Félix Loaiza took place in 'Las Quintas' in Culiacán last Thursday, November 14, 2024, while he was meeting with members of Los Chapitos to maintain his connections and expand the territory of the cartel, even towards Mexicali.

The success of the operation that led to the detention of 'El Pelón' was possible thanks to the previous capture of six of his accomplices by Mexican authorities, which allowed for close surveillance of Omar until his arrest on the borders of Sinaloa.
