The National Guard will carry out the evaluation of 750 personnel in Sinaloa in three groups. The first group, consisting of 300 police officers, will be evaluated in Mexico City from November 20 to 24. The second group, also of 300 personnel, will attend from November 25 to 27, and the third group, which consists of 150 officers, will be evaluated on December 2 and 3.
The salaries of municipal police in Sinaloa vary between 12,000 and 15,000 pesos per month, depending on the rank they hold in the corporations and in each municipality. The last increase, of 8.90 percent, was granted on November 15 in commemoration of Police Day.
To strengthen security in Culiacán, Mazatlán, and Los Mochis, the Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat will acquire one thousand surveillance cameras. Recently, 99 municipal police officers from Culiacán voluntarily resigned for various reasons, according to Gerardo Mérida Sánchez, head of the Public Security Secretariat. Additionally, there are still 1,500 personnel from the 18 municipalities of Sinaloa to be evaluated, who will undergo tests in December. Those who do not pass the confidence check will be discharged immediately.
Of the one thousand security cameras acquired, 750 will be allocated to Culiacán, and the rest will be distributed among Mazatlán and Los Mochis. Some of these cameras will be installed to replace those damaged by criminal groups who have destroyed them with gunfire, especially in areas with low vehicle traffic or on the outskirts of the city. These cameras will also be placed in conflict zones where confrontations between criminal groups have been recorded.
The cameras are expected to arrive by mid-December and will be installed quickly to strengthen security during the holiday season.
