Culiacan Protests Demand Accountability from Governor

After 136 days of violence in Sinaloa, citizens' outrage exploded during a march for peace in honor of Gael and Alexander, two boys aged 12 and 9 respectively, who were murdered in Culiacán. During the demonstration, a group of protesters broke down the doors of the office of Governor Rubén Rocha Moya demanding an immediate halt to the violence in the state.

The older brother, Leonel, 18 years old, was also seriously injured in the attack and remains fighting for his life in a hospital in Culiacán. The escalation of violence in Sinaloa, primarily attributed to organized crime activities, has generated a climate of growing discontent among the population, which demands answers from the authorities.

During the protest, demonstrators stormed into government offices, causing disturbances and demanding the presence of the governor to explain the insecurity situation in the entity. The act of desperation was live-streamed by several attendees, and images of the resulting chaos have been spread on social media, generating vigorous reactions from the virtual community.

The conflict intensified following the murder of the two boys, which was caused by an attempted robbery in which their father, Antonio, lost his life while protecting his family. Brothers Gael and Alexander passed away days later due to injuries sustained in the attack. The citizen mobilization, called to demand justice for the victims, reflects the deep weariness of the population in the face of escalating violence that has reached alarming levels in the Sinaloa region.
