
In Culiacán, Sinaloa, a march for peace was held in memory of Gael, Alexander, and their father Antonio, who lost their lives in a tragic incident. Dozens of people gathered on January 23 to demand justice and put an end to impunity in the region, holding Governor Rubén Rocha Moya and the mayor of Culiacán responsible for the growing insecurity.
The fatal event that has moved Mexican society occurred when brothers Gael and Alexander, 12 and 9 years old respectively, along with their father Antonio and their older brother, were attacked by armed men while traveling in their truck through the streets of Culiacán on January 19. Antonio died at the scene after trying to protect his family, while Gael and Alexander were critically injured.
After the attack, Gael was taken to a hospital, but unfortunately, he died on January 20 despite medical efforts. Meanwhile, Alexander remained in critical condition and died two days later. The oldest son, Leonel, continues to fight for his life in a clinic in Culiacán due to the injuries sustained in the incident.
Society has expressed outrage and sorrow over this tragic event, joining in the demands for justice for Gael, Alexander, and Antonio. On social media, many Mexicans participated in the protest using the hashtags #ConLosNiñosNo and #JusticiaParaGaelYAlexander.
