Crisis of Violence in Culiacán: Support for Governor Rocha

The president of the Senate's Board of Directors of the Republic, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, expressed his support for the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, after thousands of people demanded his dismissal due to the rising wave of violence in the state since September of last year. Noroña stated that they trust the people, and if the majority decides to revoke any authority, that is regulated by law.

In response to the demonstrations, Fernández Noroña mentioned that there are no problems if the vote supports the removal of any ruler, including his friend Rocha. However, he noted that the revocation process must meet the necessary legal requirements, respecting the popular will. He clarified that there was no intervention by other authorities to pressure Rocha Moya and emphasized that it is the people who have the decision-making power in these circumstances.

On the other hand, President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that Security efforts in Sinaloa will continue to address the violence stemming from clashes between local criminal groups. Sheinbaum ruled out the dismissal of Rubén Rocha from his position and emphasized that it is essential for all people to have the right to protest.

Protests against Rubén Rocha began after an armed attack on a family in Culiacán, where a man and his two minor children were killed. This incident provoked outrage among the population, especially among schoolmates and teachers of the victims, who joined the marches demanding Rocha's removal. The demonstrations included acts of vandalism such as the destruction of government offices.

Fernández Noroña highlighted the differences between Morena and the opposition, stressing the openness in the party to carry out processes such as the revocation of mandate. It is expected that in the coming days, a dialogue will be established between local authorities and society to address the actions to be taken in response to the security crisis in Sinaloa.
