A helicopter dropped a series of flyers in Culiacán on Thursday, January 30, demanding the dismissal and resignation of the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha, who is alleged to have ties to organized crime and is linked to Mexican cartels. The flyers also accuse other officials of being related to a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel that is involved in extortion.
The dropped flyers mention Lázaro Gamboa Espinoza, president of the Conciliation and Arbitration Board, who is reportedly connected to the family of 'Chapo' Guzmán. A woman from the Torres Félix family, who is the mother-in-law of Ovidio Guzmán, is also pointed out in the accusations.
During a demonstration at a baseball game in Culiacán, about 20 thousand people dressed in white joined calls for Rocha's resignation, chanting slogans like 'Out with Rocha Moya!'. For more than three months, Sinaloa has seen an increase in violence following the arrest of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada.
Rubén Rocha has been linked to the Sinaloa Cartel and has faced scrutiny regarding his hold on the position. The people of Sinaloa demand the revocation of Rocha Moya's mandate, accusing him of failing to restore peace in the region. Meanwhile, Rocha has claimed that life in his state is perfect.
The flyers accuse Rocha Moya of being the 'emissary' between him and Iván Archivaldo, in addition to pointing out Aida Elizabeth Torres Félix, president of UAPA and Nuevo Colorado Canal, as part of the criminal operations. The governor is accused of helping, coordinating, and financing 'Los Chapitos' and profiting from fentanyl trafficking, according to the flyers issued by 'the people of Sinaloa'. The accusations include coordinating a meeting between 'Chapo' Guzmán and Kate del Castillo at the UAS facilities.
