The detention of José Ángel Cannobio Inzunza, known as 'El Güerito', and Kevin Alonso 'N', nicknamed 'El 200', who was responsible for the security of Ivan Archivaldo Guzmán, leader of 'Los Chapitos', triggered a security operation during the night of Wednesday and the early morning of Thursday in several neighborhoods in northern Culiacán, Sinaloa.
Two helicopters from the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) hovered at low altitude over areas such as Chapultepec, Villa Universidad, Tres Ríos, and Tierra Blanca. Despite the rumors, the Secretary of Public Security of Sinaloa denied this information, claiming that there was a case of mistaken identity.
Cannobio led a criminal cell called 'Los Güeritos' or 'Los Brontos', serving Los Chapitos, the children of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, although he is not a priority target for the United States. However, he was linked to Los Chapitos in 2017 and 2018 in messages directed to national media.
During the operation, military forces closed access routes and conducted searches in various areas. Two individuals were also detained in Culiacancito, being transferred by helicopter to the international airport of Culiacán and then by National Guard plane to Mexico City.
Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch indicated that 'El 200' was responsible for the security of the leader of Los Chapitos and for coordinating the acquisition of weapons and ammunition for the criminal group. He is also linked to homicides, extortions, and attacks on the authorities, generating violence in Sinaloa.
The arrest of this individual was carried out in a joint operation between elements of the Mexican Army, National Guard, and the Mexican Air Force, in the same house where 'El Güerito' was arrested in the Las Quintas neighborhood in Culiacán.
After the arrests, classes in Culiacán, including universities, transitioned to virtual format as a precautionary measure. Activity in the city was reduced in the early hours of Thursday following these security actions.
