Journalist José Luis Montenegro shared in a recent interview for Aristegui en Vivo his analysis of the situation of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán's son, Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, who managed to escape through a tunnel discovered in Culiacán, Sinaloa. He pointed out that the Government of Mexico has not clarified what happened with him, highlighting that the operation carried out was not primarily aimed at Guzmán's son. Montenegro also mentioned that, according to sources, the drug lord escaped with another person through a tunnel, the extension of which has been documented on social media and local media.
Regarding the capture of an individual known as “El Güero” and the surrender without resistance of Kevin Gil Acosta, alias “El 200”, during operations conducted, Montenegro commented that the primary objective was not to capture Iván Archivaldo. Although he highlighted that both he and the federal Security Secretary, Omar García Harfuch, agreed that Guzmán's son's presence was coincidental and not the main focus of those actions.
On the other hand, Montenegro analyzed the recent letter from Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, leader of the Sinaloa cartel, in which he requests his repatriation and the cancellation of his drug trafficking trial. This event, according to the journalist, is an unusual occurrence that could reveal agreements between organized crime and political actors in Mexico. He also mentioned that Zambada’s situation could be used by the United States as a means to pressure Mexico on security issues.
Additionally, the capture of a pilot linked to the Sinaloa cartel, alias “El Jando”, accused of drug trafficking-related crimes, was addressed. Montenegro warned that more details about his involvement in the transfer of Zambada to the United States could emerge in the coming days.
In relation to Iván Archivaldo's escape, Montenegro revealed that this was coordinated by Jassiel Abdiel Guzmán Araujo, son of Aureliano Guzmán Loera, and it is believed that he could currently be in Badiraguato, Sinaloa. He also pointed out that Guzmán's son's presence during the operations was not planned and that drugs, weapons, and clandestine surveillance centers were found in properties related to him.
