The Attorney General's Office of the Republic reported on the murder of Héctor Melesio Cuén, former rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa and political rival of Governor Rubén Rocha Moya. The crime occurred on a ranch where Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada was previously kidnapped on July 25.
According to the FGR, there are indications that Cuén was present at the kidnapping site and that the blood traces correspond to the moment of his murder. Human blood was found in the bed of the vehicle used in the gas station setup, which is linked to Rodolfo 'C', a member of Zambada's security team and currently missing.
In a video obtained, the driver of Héctor Melesio Cuén recants his previous statement about the disappearance and death of the politician, which supports the version presented by 'El Mayo' Zambada in a letter disseminated by his lawyer after his detention. The FGR is investigating local authorities in Sinaloa for their possible involvement in the murder.
It was reported that a federal judge in Culiacán rejected to review and follow the case against the perpetrators, so the Federal Public Ministry will present the evidence before a different judge. These new findings contradict the initial version of the Sinaloa Attorney General's Office, which stated that Cuén was murdered at a gas station. Traces of Cuén's blood were found on a property in Huertos del Pedregal, Culiacán, confirmed by federal forensic units.
