The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) confirmed the death of 19 people who participated in the attack on military personnel during the capture of Edwin Antonio “N”, alias “El Max”, an alleged operator of Ismael El Mayo Zambada. Among the deceased or detained, the presence of Jesús Rafael Yocupicio Yocupicio, “El Cabezón”, and Rodolfo López Arellano, alias “El Cabo 30” and/or “El Solecito”, has not been confirmed, who also operated in Baja California and were not listed in the National Register of Arrests (RND) of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.
In a statement, Sedena reported that on Monday, October 21, elements of the Mexican Army managed to arrest “El Max” in the rural community of Plan de Oriente. According to the federal agency, “El Max” was the alleged leader of a criminal cell linked to the faction of Mayo Zambada of the Pacific Cartel, which had been actively involved in the recent violence in Culiacán. During the military operation, 30 hitmen from the criminal cell and escorts of “El Max” attacked the members of the Mexican Army.
On October 22, in Culiacán, flyers were dropped from a small plane in the name of “Los Mayos,” stating that they would seek to “overthrow” the administration of Rubén Rocha Moya, alleging his supposed support for “Los Chapitos.” In the message signed by “La Mayiza,” which also carried the initials of Ismael Zambada Sicairos, alias “El Mayito Flaco,” they urged reporting any abuse, corruption, businesses, and residences of the state governor and his children, as well as members of his cabinet, who supposedly acted as front men.
