Violent Saturday in Culiacan: 21 Murders Reported

Today in Culiacán, the Forensic Medical Service went to collect an abandoned cooler in Culiacán 87 park that, when opened, revealed human remains and a head. This finding triggered a violent day in the city, 48 days into the rivalry between the Chapitos and the Mayiza, with a total of 21 murders reported in just two days.

One of the most notable incidents occurred during a shooting chase on the coastal highway Culiacán-Guasave, which culminated in the death of two men and a woman. The pickup truck they were traveling in was pursued for several kilometers until it fell into a ditch near a plot in Villa Ángel Flores. Additionally, a worker from the highway concession company was injured during the shooting.

In another incident, on the Culiacán-Eldorado road, two bodies with signs of torture and gunshot wounds were found. These bodies were transferred to the Forensic Medical Service of Culiacán for identification. Another burned body was discovered in a residence in the Guadalupe Victoria neighborhood.

In addition to these findings, a total of 10 homicides were reported, including a body wrapped in a tarp and another burned. On the same day, 11 additional murders were recorded, raising the death toll to nearly 300 since the onset of the confrontation between criminal groups in Culiacán. Among the victims were also three people, including a woman, murdered on the coastal highway Culiacán-Guasave.

Even with all these tragedies, one of the most disturbing findings was the abandoned cooler containing human remains. Neighbors reported that individuals set a property on fire the night before the discovery of the cooler in Culiacán 87 park. Simultaneously, on the Culiacán-Sanalona road, a body wrapped in a tarp was found near a beer outlet in La Costerita.

Amid this wave of violence, the body of Kevin, 23 years old, who had been kidnapped days earlier in Culiacán, was discovered. He was found dead with signs of torture and gunshot wounds on the outskirts of the town El Carrizalejo. These events added to other incidents reported by the State Attorney General's Office, such as the attack against four municipal police officers from Navolato that resulted in two dead and two seriously injured, along with multiple reports of vehicle theft and illegal deprivation of liberty.
