Escalation of Violence in Culiacán Between Cartels

The struggle for control between the cartels in Culiacán has intensified violence following threats and media responses, implicating the government in the dispute.

Escalation of Violence in Culiacán Between Cartels

In Sinaloa, the conflict between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel led by 'Los Chapitos' and 'Los Mayos' has entered a new phase with media confrontations and threats. Ismael Zambada 'Sicairos', son of 'El Mayo' Zambada, accused the state government of Rubén Rocha Moya of supporting the children of 'El Chapo' Guzmán. This accusation triggered a series of threatening messages that generated fear in the population.

A narcomanta placed on a pedestrian bridge in Culiacán, written by 'Los Chapitos', threatens to hand over 'El Mayito Flaco' to the United States. This narcomanta also confirmed the version that 'Los Chapitos' handed over 'El Mayo' Zambada to U.S. authorities. This conflict has led to an increase in violence in Sinaloa, with confrontations between the two factions of the cartel.

The detention of 'El Mayo' Zambada and other cartel leaders by the United States has been indicated as a factor that has increased violence in the region. The head of the Mexican Army stated that the arrests of cartel members have led to a resurgence of violence and greater armament among criminal groups in Sinaloa.

In response to the threats from 'Los Chapitos', 'El Mayito Flaco' left a cooler on a street in Culiacán, presumably containing the head of an operator of 'Los Chapitos'. This act was interpreted as a challenge to the rival faction and as a response to the alleged complicity of the state government with the children of 'El Chapo' Guzmán. The attached message in the cooler warns 'Los Chapitos' about the supposed strength of the faction led by 'Los Mayos'.

The increase in violence in Sinaloa and the confrontations between the factions of the Sinaloa Cartel have generated concern among the population and have led to an increase in security forces' operations in the region. The conflict between 'Los Chapitos' and 'Los Mayos' seems far from reaching a resolution, leaving the inhabitants of Sinaloa and local and federal authorities on edge.
