A 9-year-old child is in intensive care after undergoing complex surgery, and their condition is reported as critical. This situation has raised alarm in the population of Culiacán, where the Sinaloa Health Secretary, Cuitláhuac González Galindo, revealed that during the recent wave of violence, 135 people have been hospitalized due to injuries related to violent incidents.
"When I say various circumstances, it includes those minors who have been in processes or situations of violent confrontations," the official specified while referring to the impact of insecurity on the child population. The most recent case occurred in the early morning of Sunday, January 19, when a family was shot at during a chase in the Los Ángeles neighborhood, in the northeast of Culiacán.
The confrontations between criminal groups have intensified insecurity in the region, leaving entire families vulnerable and increasing the number of victims, many of whom are minors, struggling to survive the consequences of violence. In the last four months, homicides, arson of businesses, attacks on homes, and vehicles that have been robbed or set on fire in Culiacán have been recorded as a result of confrontations between internal groups of the Sinaloa Cartel.
The violence unleashed in Culiacán, Sinaloa, since September 9, 2024, due to the armed conflict between the criminal groups La Mayo and Los Chapitos, has left an alarming toll of affected minors. More than 20 children and adolescents have been admitted to hospitals in the state, according to information provided by the Secretary General of Government, Feliciano Castro Meléndez, in a press conference.
"Children or young people, adolescents under 18 years old who have been admitted under certain circumstances are 20. Unfortunately, a 12-year-old child died while receiving medical attention. During the attack, three minors were injured."
