Sinaloa Governor Confirms Drones Used by Criminals to Intimidate Population

The governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, confirmed that in Badiraguato, drone attacks have been registered targeting communities in the Sierra mountains to intimidate them, which has forced the displacement of residents. He added that several of these devices have been seized, which were used by organized crime groups to monitor movements and intimidate the population. "There have been (attacks) and that is why we have had a sudden phenomenon of forced displacement, and we have been attending to it in Badiraguato and here (Culiacán) (...) There is an operation there, many drones have been seized, in effect, organized crime has been using the drone and the people were afraid of the drone," Rocha Moya stated to the media. According to security sources, agents have so far seized seven drones, as well as material for making homemade or artisanal explosives. The governor also mentioned that the victims of violence are being assisted by the Secretariat of Welfare and Sustainable Development (Sebides). Rocha Moya's statements come after a video was posted and circulated on social media where several individuals are apparently throwing an explosive device at the home of Consuelo Loera Pérez, mother of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, in the community of La Tuna. Since September 2024, there has been an internal struggle within the Sinaloa Cartel, which the United States declared a terrorist group this year after the arrest in July of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, a co-founder of the organization, following the handover by Joaquín Guzmán López, one of 'El Chapo' Guzmán's sons, to the United States. According to figures from the NGO State Public Security Council (CESP), since September 9, 2024, the conflict between 'Los Chapitos' and 'Los Mayos' has caused more than 1,800 deaths in Sinaloa and over 2,400 forced disappearances.
