On Monday, October 21, the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) carried out the detention of Edwin Antonio Rubio López, known as 'El Max'. During the confrontation between the Army and this criminal, 30 people were injured and 19 lost their lives. In the operation, an armed helicopter provided aerial support, firing at civilians who took cover in the underbrush.
Both 'El Max' and the seized items were delivered to the Attorney General's Office (FGR) for legal processing and to continue the relevant investigations. This individual is identified as one of the main generators of violence in Sinaloa in recent times, following the detention of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada and the fight against 'Los Chapitos'.
'El Max', leader of a criminal cell linked to 'El Mayo' Zambada, led by Ismael 'El Mayito Flaco' Zambada Sicairos, is a key figure in the group of Los Arzate, allied with the Sinaloa Cartel in Baja California, and with 'La Mayiza', one of the armed wings of Zambada's faction. Since 2019, there has been an arrest warrant against him, and he is accused of crimes such as drug trafficking to the United States, moving from Culiacán to San Felipe, Baja California, and then to Los Angeles.
In addition to being known as 'El Max', he is also referred to by the nickname 'El Oso'. According to Sedena, he is associated with drug trafficking from Culiacán to San Felipe, for subsequent shipment to the city of Los Angeles, United States.
